Career mentorship for girls in Chandigarh
About the workshop
Despite important gains in the formal education of girls in the last decade and a half, women in India are conspicuously missing from the workforce. Many factors are behind the decline: family-enforced social norms that place women predominantly in caregiving roles, deeply ingrained stereotypes around occupations, traditionally low levels of self-confidence, and information and network asymmetries. With so many job sectors that are traditionally male-dominated, women do not have access to the same amount of information and opportunities.
We aim to do this by helping young girls interact with women experts from diverse backgrounds and unconventional fields to spark curiosity and build a perspective that girls can pick up career paths which are less taken.
Global Shapers Community (Chandigarh & Gurugram Hub) have joined hands with Consulate General of Canada in Chandigarh to launch “Empower Her”, a career mentorship program for young girls to lead their careers meaningfully.
Target audience
80-100 young girls from 9th and 11th standard as participants during the event.
What do we plan to cover?

- Post the journey sharing, we will curate group interactions where we would like you to interact with the students more personally.
